Internet Cafe Equipment – Necessary and Additional
Setting up of Internet (Cyber) Cafe and the cost of it depends on a number of client computers and services you plan to offer to your customers. To start Internet Cafe business, you will need: internet connection (ADSL, Cable etc.), client computers, server computer that controls the clients and networking hardware. In the most cases networking hardware is not very expensive, however everything depends on a type of network. If you plan to have wired network type, switch or router, and networking cables will be necessary. If you plan wireless network you will need to have wireless access point or router and wireless network cards for your client computers. Of course, if required, you can make a combination of wired and wireless network. For Internet Cafes that offers only Internet access office programs there is no need to buy very expensive computers. The concept and name, Cybercafé, was invented at the beginning of 1994 by Ivan Pope. Having a duty to organize an Internet event for an arts weekend at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London, Pope wrote a special proposal giving the idea of a café with Internet access from the tables. Cafe `Cyberia` started Internet cafe history. It was opened in London on September 1st, 1994. The founder of the first Internet cafe, Eva Pascoe, was working on her PhD at the time when she got the idea to connect sipping coffee at one of coffee shops near the City University of London and web surfing.

Here is a fact: Many people don’t trust cyber cafes.
Most people in this day and age are very sceptical about cyber cafes. This comes from the stories about key loggers and identity theft that people hear on TV and read online. So what can you do about it as an internet cafe owner?
The answer is simple, show the customer you are secure and up-to-date. This is easy to do with a couple simple steps. Continue reading How Important Is Customer Security in Your Cafe?
The Cyber Cafe Association of India (CCAOI) has a PDF published on their website on how they believe an internet cafe should be run.

The main concern of many people who are considering opening a cyber cafe is whether or not it is viable. That is a hard question to answer without additional information. The simple rule is location, location, location.
Would your cyber cafe be around people who need it? With the decline of internet cafes or cyber cafes in North American cities, you need to ask the question of who will be using your business. If you are in a resort area where people travel to the area then your chances of success are greater. If you are in an area with many younger people then your chances of making a gaming cafe work are greater. If you are in the middle of a middle to upper class area then your chance are slim of having success. Why? This is because the people already have computer and likely handheld devices (iPhone etc.) to check email and surf the web.
In areas where there are many people from different countries around the world, a cafe can be a gold mine since most are not willing to pay the roaming fees and huge costs that come with using personal devices. In a Mexican resort it would be much cheaper for a vacationer to use a cafe then pay roaming fees. Even at $20 per hour the customer would be much further ahead.
In the end you need to ask yourself the first question… Would my cyber cafe be around people who need it?
Next question… How Important Is Security?
