How Important Is Customer Security in Your Cafe?

Here is a fact: Many people don’t trust cyber cafes.

Most people in this day and age are very sceptical about cyber cafes.  This comes from the stories about key loggers and identity theft that people hear on TV and read online.  So what can you do about it as an internet cafe owner?

The answer is simple, show the customer you are secure and up-to-date.  This is easy to do with a couple simple steps.

Anti-Virus

Have a good Anti-Virus program and let your customers know you are using a good Anti-Virus Program.  A simple sign saying “We use AVG Premium Anti-Virus” can go a long way with a potential customer.  It could be the decision maker between your business and the one down the street.  The fact that you paid for your protection lets the customer know that your are there to stay and have invested in your business and your customer’s safety.

AVG Anti-Virus Network Edition – Focus on your business and minimize IT resource requirements.  The software is a good price and it is proven and well known.

Contact the manufacturer of your chosen software and ask for a sign or a window sticker.  Most will jump at the opportunity for the free advertisement.

Get Licensed!

If your area/jurisdiction/country has a requirement of your internet cafe / gaming center to be licensed, do it!  It may come with a price tag but it will also show legitimacy to your customers.  Your customer is more likely to walk into a licensed business than a non-licensed business.  The customer will have a more secure feeling that nothing shady is happening with their information.

Firewall

Most cafes and gaming centers equip their backend with a hardware/software firewalls.  If you have it, flaunt it.  A customer walking in will be delighted to know he/she is behind the protection you provided them.  You spent the money so you might as well advertise the fact you are securing your customers.

Basically make sure your customer can walk into your business and know that they are as safe as possible.  If you can give that immediate feeling, your business will reap the rewards.  If you don’t, people will walk on by to the business that is concerned about their customer’s security online.
